What did you do this past week?

This past week I was able to finish phase 1 of the project with my group. There was a lot of learning involved in this process which took a while, but it was very nice seeing the work done. I helped in designing our API through Postman. I also started working on a project for another class.

What’s in your way?

I am kind of confused on the material taught in my other class. I have a project over it due this week, and I don’t really understand what to do. Other than that, nothing much is in my way.

What will you do next week?

Next week, I will hopefully get my project done and get started on the next phase for the project in this class. I will also work on some recruiting stuff and try to prepare for interviews.

If you read it, what did you think of Why Is Silicon Valley So Awful to Women?

Reading this article really opened my eyes to seeing how big the gender discrimination is in Silicon Valley and the tech industry. It really put things into perspective, and it should definitely speak to companies in trying to make the work environment a safer space for everyone.

What was your experience of iterators, reduce(), and tuple?

I thought Professor Downing did a great job of explaining these concepts. I feel like he really went into detail by providing examples on how these topics work, and I felt pretty comfortable in understanding them. I still should probably review them just to make sure I understand.

What’s it like working in a group?

I think it’s very nice being able to work in a group. I like being able to bounce ideas off of each other. For example, if I don’t really understand something, one of my group mates could maybe explain it to me, and vice versa. It could also be kind of productive, as we could split up the work and also work together.

What was your experience of the team contract?

The signing of the team contract went pretty smoothly. Our whole team got together in a Zoom meeting and talked about how we want to go about our project. It was a pretty good experience.

What was your experience of the peer review?

The peer review was also a pretty smooth process. My team did a great job of doing their assigned work and was very helpful along the way as well.

What made you happy this week?

This weekend I got the chance to play Spikeball with my roommates. We haven’t played in a while, so it was a pretty fun experience just being able to run around the park in great weather. Also the weather was very nice this whole week.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

This past week working on phase 1 of the project, I found myself constantly learning and researching new tools that we needed to use. My tip of the week is to set aside some time to do some research on the project and the tools you need before you actually start doing the project. This will help save a lot of stress that may occur from learning new things at the last minute.
